Valencian musical success through the “Festival de los Balcones”
Llíria
Music served for a few minutes as symbol of union and hope at Valencian homes. As a Creative City of Music, with all its strength and enthusiasm Llíria pushed forward the initiative of the Federación de Sociedades Musicales de la Comunidad Valenciana and of the communicator Eugeni Alemany, who gathered every musician, professional, student and fan into an unusual musical performance. This concert took place from the balconies and windows of each home. In the state of alert that Spain is currently going through due to the COVID-19, no one is allowed to leave his home. Not even on March 19, St. Joseph’s feast day, a Valencian feast which music and joy had always protagonized. So as to make the obligatory isolation easier, on this day at 12 p.m. all the musicians stepped into the balcony with their instruments to interpret “Paquito el Chocolatero”, a popular and festive song associated to the “Fallas”, a Valencian traditional festival. The objective: that the music serves to join the society in these troubled times and to help alleviate the confinement measures that affect the whole population. Youths and elderly, music experts and fans enjoyed for a few minutes a glimmer of hope. The success of the initiative was to be seen in the social networks and media in many videos shared from Llíria and other different towns of the Valencian Community, where music is something more than a lifestyle.
