Tallinn Music Delegation Visits Daegu to Strengthen Creative City Collaboration
Daegu, Tallinn
A music delegation from Tallinn, Estonia, a UNESCO Creative City of Music, visited Daegu, South Korea, from November 5 to 8, to strengthen cultural ties and explore future collaboration between the two cities. The visit was in line with Daegu’s ongoing commitment to promoting cultural dialogue and expanding collaboration within the UNESCO Creative Cities Network.
Designated as a UNESCO Creative City of Music in 2021, Tallinn is renowned for its vibrant music scene spanning jazz, classical, and contemporary genres, as well as its dynamic festivals and performances throughout the year. Daegu and Tallinn first established their partnership during the 2022 UNESCO Creative City of Music Daegu Global Forum, which led to tangible cultural exchanges such as the participation of young Tallinn artists in the Solasian Orchestra at Daegu Concert House in 2023, and the invitation of Daegu Opera House’s original production Shim Cheong to the Saaremaa Opera Festival in Estonia in 2025.
During their stay in Daegu, the delegation visited major concert halls, arts institutions, and creative venues that form the city’s vibrant music ecosystem. They met with local festival organizers, arts groups, and cultural policy experts to discuss potential joint projects and long-term cooperation. The exchange provided an opportunity to better understand Daegu’s performance and creative infrastructure while laying the groundwork for future programs such as artist residencies, collaborative performances, and cross-city festivals.
“This visit marks another step forward in strengthening Daegu’s global connections within the UNESCO Creative Cities Network,” said Choi Mi-kyung, Director of the Culture and Arts Policy Division of Daegu Metropolitan City. “Daegu boasts a strong musical ecosystem where performance venues, festivals, and creative spaces are closely connected. Through this exchange with Tallinn, we aim to provide local musicians with broader opportunities on the international stage and further elevate Daegu’s standing as a global Creative City of Music.”
