Kazan hosted the Festival of New Ethnic Culture of the Peoples of the Volga Region “Itil”

In August 2024, the “Itil” Festival was held at an open area in the Kazan Park.

The Festival of New Ethnic Culture of the Peoples of the Volga Region “Itil” has been held annually since 2021 and has always been extremely popular among residents and guests of the Republic of Tatarstan. Every year, the festival brings together thousands people at the main venues of the city.

“Itil” unites Russians, Tatars, Bashkirs, Chuvashes, Udmurts, Mari and Mordvins – representatives of different peoples living on the banks of the Volga River, which was called Itil in ancient times, through creativity, the history of peoples and the culture of their ancestors.

In 2024, more than 5 thousand people took part, the guests got acquainted with the rich cultural heritage of the peoples of the Volga region through a variety of activities and a rich program.

13 talented musical groups and artists from all over the country performed on the music stage. The headliner of the event was Petr Nalich, a Russian singer and composer.

Craftsmen presented their creations at the fair of national products in ethnic style with original souvenirs and gifts reflecting the cultural traditions of the Volga region.

In the covered tent, there were lectures, a screening and discussion of the documentary film “Mon. Anlatma”, which immersed viewers in the world of folk traditions and a master class on playing the Russian national instrument domra.

Separately, children’s and play areas were organized with master classes and old folk games. Children created pictures from nails and colored canvas on a loom for weaving, played the game “Chokyr” and made a mosaic from their drawings.

A picnic with treats from national dishes was held at a common table, symbolizing the friendship and unity of the Volga peoples.
