Brumley’s Suitcase

Adelaide

Three Adelaide based songwriters (Dan Crannitch, Taasha Coates, Kelly Menhennett) travelled to travel to Austin in September 2016, to participate in an international collaborative song writing project called The House of Songs with writers from Austin, Texas.

Betsy Brumley, the grand-daughter of the late Albert E. Brumley, and founder of the I’ll Fly Away Foundation, presented the writers with some of Brumley’s unfinished material to work on, as part of the House of Songs project.  This was a once off, lifetime opportunity for the artists involved, as they will be the last living co-writers of this internationally significant composer.

While in Austin, our artists were made ‘Honoured Guests’ of Texas, and presented with certificates at a special event hosted by the City of Austin and the Texas Music Office.

This project was documented by Adelaide film production company, Closer Productions.  The Director accompanied our artists to the United States to document the process and the live performance outcomes. Post production was carried out in Adelaide with the short film/documentary to premiere in the Adelaide Film Festival in October 2017.
